This year’s edition of an annual event aims to highlight the leading role that the next generation will play in countering the negative effects of climate change.
Youth are one of the main focuses of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), taking place from 13th to 20th January at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Working under the theme of Driving the Global Energy Transformation, the event will tackle key global trends – climate change, urbanisation and digitisation – that are paving the shift to sustainable energy.
In recent years, we’ve seen the sustainable industry grow with the emergence of new companies developing noble ideas, while existing firms have realigned their strategies to cope with changing times.
These developments illustrate the need to build future generations of eco-conscious thinkers in the workforce to advance the cause further.
Dr Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, minister of climate change and environment, commented: “Focusing on the youth and involving them in all sectors has been an important and vital aspect in the UAE since its inception.
“This is also clearly evident in the effective involvement of youth in various jobs across the public and private sectors and their contribution in developing and implementing future plans.”
A dedicated youth panel will jumpstart the event on opening day where promising innovators and budding entrepreneurs will get to present sustainable-related ideas to international investors.
Other key subjects in this year’s agenda include energy and water efficiency and forming sustainable communities.
As in previous years, ADSW will gather global leaders, policy makers, experts, scientists and business leaders as they discuss technological advancements and their commercial viability, trends, platforms and accompanying challenges.
“Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week reinforces the country’s strong position in the clean energy, climate and environment sectors and highlights its efforts to develop local talent and attract global expertise to find effective solutions to the most important challenges facing the international community,” Dr Thani said.
