Thursday 15th March
Fancy a film? Yas Movies in the Park launches this weekend with four films and some top entertainment lined up. First up on Thursday Finding Nemo and The Fast and the Furious will be shown on the big screen at Yas Gateway Park. On Friday, the immersive Grease experience comes to the fore giving fans of the film the chance to enjoy ’50s -themed entertainment, attractions and a screening of the iconic movie. Finally, on Saturday visitors can see Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan doing a Q&A session, themed musical performances, comedy from Salman Qureshi and a screening of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Abu Dhabi is going green this weekend as St Patrick’s Day is celebrated throughout the city with a host of events.

Over 1,000 athletes from 31 countries are in the capital for the Special Olympics IX Mena Games Abu Dhabi 2018. 16 different sports are taking place across eight venues in the city, why not go along and lend the UAE team your support? Divisioning kicks off today for many of the events before Saturday’s big opening ceremony. Head to ADNEC for badminton, basketball, volleyball, roller skating and table tennis action or make for Zayed Sports City for bowling, football and tennis matches. Over at NYU, powerlifters and swimmers will battle it out and on the north field you can watch competitors in the long jump, shot put, 100m and 400m races. Got kids to entertain this weekend? Louvre Abu Dhabi is hosting a unique puppet show for children over the age of six. A Tree and a Boy draws parallels between the development of a tree and a young child exploring how change is a natural thing. The Poetry Fair takes over Manarat Al Saadiyat this weekend. Kicking things off on Friday, a poetry writing workshop will take place in the gardens from 4pm-7pm followed by an Arabic performance from Rooftop Rhythms from 7pm-9pm. On Saturday End Small Talk will host an event from 4pm-6pm to encourage conversation, Backyard Poetry will take over from 6pm-7pm and Echoes Abu Dhabi from 7pm-8pm with some live performances and readings. Running this weekend only, ‘The Quiet Rebel’ art exhibition by Emirati Mosaicista, Sarah Al Senaani could be an uplifting experience for visitors. Her intricate work aims to raise awareness about how art can serve as therapy to fight depression and mood disorders. If you’ve got energy to burn then why not try out a free fitness class to see if it’s your thing? Head to Bodytree Studio and take part in the high energy mixed athletic interval pilates class.
