Blast from the past

You still have time to catch the Year of Tolerance exhibition before it officially wraps up on 15th August. This one-of-a-kind exhibit displays 30 photos featuring Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan during key milestones in the country’s history. The pictures were taken from 1965 to 1990 and are from the National Archives collection.

Catch Jason as he entertains with skits and funny stories about his life growing up in a working-class family versus adulthood as a middle-class man, who even had to issue an official apology to the people of Cornwall and Dawn French recently for the way he prepares his scones!

Hippy happenings

Are your kids driving you loopy already? Well, how about they go a bit hippy-dippy instead? No, no, we’re not advocating packing them off to Woodstock or Burning Man, but instead to IKEA, of all places. This Friday as part of the IKEA Summer Academy they can have a go tie-dye. It’s going be great, maaaan.

Kids and young adults are welcome to join the free Maktaba Summer Camp 2019. This fun camp under the theme ‘When I Grow Up’, features an educational and entertainment programme designed to hone skills including reading, calligraphy, cooking, puppet-making, music and even blogging.

Hands dirty

Adults looking to unleash their craftsmanship, or do their best Patrick Swayze in Ghost impression, can do so by signing up to a class at Abu Dhabi Pottery this weekend. The two-hour session will cover more than just the basics – from preparing clay to various stages of pottery to firing and glazing for a fine finish. Do all these at your own pace, so just relax and have fun. Your hands will get dirty.
