There are more than 600 children’s and young adult books being exhibited at Mushrif Mall until 20th October. It’s all part of the Kalima Encourages Reading exhibition aimed to promote love of reading among youngsters. The exhibition highlights the value of printed books in today’s time where e-books have become the popular option among readers. With that being said, bibliophiles wanting to purchase books will enjoy up to 75 percent discount. We know a page-turner when we see one!!

Tuesday, 8th October

A trailblazer

See the creations of one of UAE’s leading artists Najat Makki in full display at the Cultural Foundation. Luminescence features Najat’s trademark abstract and experimental style told in vivid colours and inspired by social issues and of her many travels. The exhibition will run until 15th December.

Among the stars

To mark World Space Week from 4th to 10th October, the Centre for Genomics and Systems Biology at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) will host Living with a Star, a talk on the anatomy of the sun and its impact on the Earth’s climate and space instrumentation. Explore violent solar eruptions and mysteriously long-lived sunspots, all taken by NASA’s impressive billion-dollar satellite, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, from here in the capital.

Wednesday, 9th October

The big picture

Paris is always a good idea and so is this free screening of A Great Day in Paris by filmmaker Michka Saäl and jazz musician Ricky Ford. The pair brought together 75 American jazz musicians living in France for a historic photograph on the steps of Montmartre in Paris. This documentary film shows footages, interviews and performances.

Grab the mic

Ladies, now’s your chance to show off those amazing vocal pipes. The Karaoke Ladies Night at Victor’s Abu Dhabi is an open mic event for gals wanting to sing their hearts out. Belt out like Beyonce or channel your inner Aretha Franklin before an adoring audience. For added motivation, volunteer singers will get a drink absolutely free. And as its ladies night, women (whether singing or not) are entitled to five free beverages.

The beat goes on
