You have to wait a little longer to see this masterpiece

One of the last remaining works by Leonardo Da Vinci will be put on display in Abu Dhabi – but its unveiling has been delayed. 

13-leonardo-da-vinci-salvator-mundi.w600.h315.2xOriginally scheduled to be made public this month at Louvre Abu Dhabi, ‘Salvator Mundi’ will now be placed on display for the public later in the year.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi acquired the painting in November 2017 with the aim of bringing an iconic piece of art history to the UAE.

SAM_4980Dating from around 1500, the oil painting was presumed destroyed before being rediscovered and restored in 2007 at the Conservation Center of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

promo333383091Depicting the image of Christ dressed in robes, holding an orb in one hand, the piece is one of fewer than 20 works by Da Vinci left in the world.

Details on the new date for the unveiling are expected to be announced soon.
