Three organisations in Abu Dhabi have teamed up to tackle the growing problem of diabetes in the country.
HealthPlus, Aldar Properties and Abu Dhabi Women’s Business Council have partnered up for a one-day awareness event, “Take Charge of your Health, Fight Diabetes”, which will take place on Friday, 14th June.
According to a study published last year by The International Diabetes Federation, the UAE ranks eleventh worldwide for disease, with 18.9 percent of the UAE population living with the condition.
The free event, which will run from 5pm to 9pm at the Souk, World Trade Centre, aims to encourage people to come along to find out more about this condition.
Lectures will be given in both English and Arabic from Dr Thomas Kunt and Dr Mohammed Al-Khatib respectively. Health checks will be offered by HealthPlus and will include BMI tests on guest’s height and weight, blood sugar and blood pressure will also be available to all visitors. These tests are meant to help identify at-risk patients and will be available free of charge.
“As a health care organisation, one of our key missions is to further incorporate awareness and health education to the general public. Basic health checks are very important in maintaining health and we’ve had a great response from the community,” says Farah Al Alami, marketing and communications manager at UE Medical, the parent company of HealthPlus. “We are very pleased by the support we have been given from Aldar and the Abu Dhabi Women’s Business Council and look forward to a great event.”
A special bazaar will also run in conjunction to the event and a variety of kid’s activities will be on offer.
