Holidays left you feeling like you’ve done nine rounds? This boxing workout pulls no punches – four weeks of intensive training outdoors starts tonight. Classes with the ominously titled ‘Mad Irish’ from Roar Fitness Bootcamp take place three times a week at the public park, next to Al Noor Mediclinic. He’ll have you singing ‘Eye of the Tiger’ in no time.

Let it snow

louvre snow globeExperience winter in a whole new way at Louvre Abu Dhabi. Interactive snow globes form a trail throughout the museum, leading to its latest blockbuster exhibition, 10,000 Years of Luxury, which features copies of some of the show’s most luxurious objects. Make the globes snow by scanning a Rcode or sending a tweet with #findyourluxury from now through 12th January.

Monday 6th January

Free movie alert

Head over to Cinema Space for the free viewing of the award-winning Monsieur Lazhar. This French-language story, with English subtitles, is set in Montreal where an Algerian immigrant and teacher, Monsieur Lazhar himself,  is set to change the lives of middle school students who are grieving the passing of their previous teacher.  Lazhar has big shoes to fill and a painful past to reckon with. There’s won’t be a dry eye in the house, so make sure you take a handkerchief.

Brazilian bacchanalia

Banish the January blues by learning the most colourful of dance genres – the Brazillian samba. Ginger Arts and Dance is holding a free class where instructor Liseth Farfan will lead a cardio workout that blends samba dance steps with fitness. Bring attitude, energy and get ready to shimmy. Que bacana!

Tuesday 7th January

Feel the love

Love abounds at Inner Seed’s monthly Women’s Healing Circle where hearts are open, and hopefully healed, and the female community becomes as one. Share your thoughts in a safe and supportive environment, be listened to by like-minded people through storytelling, honour your uniqueness and encourage each other to build your inner strength. You’ll also get to meditate, drink herbal tea and feel the love!

Culture kick

Jordi Savall

Kick-off the new year with a bit of culture and the sound of classical Andalusian music by Jordi Savall and music groups Hesperion XXI and the Capella Reial de Catalunya. The performances, which reflect on the history, philosophy, and beauty of Al Andalous, will take you on a musical journey spanning 500 years. Support local cultural initiatives and get your fill of Arabic-influenced music at the same time.

She’s gonna run with you

Need a hero to help amp up your fitness after the holidays? Run with trainer Anan at Yas Marina Circuit every Tuesday as part of the Daman Local Heroes campaign, which is a movement celebrating inspiring people who share their love of physical activity with their community.  Sing along with us: “She’s got a heart of gold, she’d never let me down…”

It’s not over yet

The festive season continues over at the St Regis Abu Dhabi where an Orthodox Christmas Lunch is being served. Whether you celebrate or not, all are welcome to tuck into freshly caught fish and shellfish and freshly made sushi from live stations that the hotel’s calling a ‘feast fit for a king’ – or queen.

If you’re heading to the Garden City, stop by Barari Outlet Mall and let the kids enjoy roaming characters, stilt walkers, mascots and balloon bending, every weekend until February. Parents, there’s something in store for you too as there will be mall-wide sales on.
