Café 302

This popular downtown café was one of the first to add a plant-based burger to its menu and it has since expanded its selection with one vegan and two vegetarian options. Vegans can tuck into a red lentil and cauliflower burger with a tomato relish, crispy fried onions and sweet potato fries. For vegetarians, the chunky Portobello and black bean burger, served with a red cabbage slaw, pickled onions and a signature sauce is a hearty alternative. From AED 56. Al Maha Arjaan, Hamdan Street. Burger Fuel

If you prefer fast food to gourmet options, head to BurgerFuel, where the sandwiches are packed with flavour but won’t break the bank. The V-Twin Vege features a mushroom, kumara, chickpea and basil patty and is topped with melted cheddar cheese, plum sauce, salad, relish and that moreish signature aioli. The V-Dub Vege, which can be made vegan by removing the aioli and cheese, features individual bites made of mashed carrot, chickpea, ginger and pumpkin, and comes topped with grated beetroot, salad and relish. Order some tots or chunky fries on the side and you have a hearty fast food meal with all the satisfaction and none of the greasy side effects. AED 34. vegan black bean burger black tap abu dhabi

Black Tap

This ADW favourite ticks all the boxes. The funky Black Tap craft burger outlet is perhaps best known for its over-the-top sugary milkshake creations, but don’t let that deter you from the main courses, because the burgers are something special. The veggie option here is a falafel burger but our top pick is the vegan burger, comprising a hearty black bean patty topped with pickled red onions, homemade salsa verde, fresh cilantro and a vegan mayo. Served with a whole pickle and homemade fries, it’s the epitome of a craft burger. AED 85. Yas Mall, Yas Island. Sat-Wed 11am-11pm, Thu-Fri 11am-midnight. Contact: 02 446 5128,
