Every second, it’s estimated that 160,000 plastic bags are used around the world.
Visitors at an Abu Dhabi mall are being asked to help fight this problem and do their part for the planet with the launch of a new environmental campaign.
From 12th to 15th September, Yas Mall will team up with Emirates Wildlife Society – World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF) and Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi to raise awareness of the consequences of plastic pollution with its Rethink Plastic initiative.
Featuring a plastic bag amnesty – where visitors can swap their plastic bags for eco-friendly totes designed by local influencers – the campaign aims to get shoppers thinking a little more deeply about unnecessary waste.
Commenting on the initiative, Abdulla Al Nuaimi, director of business development and marketing at EWS-WWF, highlighted that skipping the bag at the check-out can have a big impact on our environment: “The small action of not using single-use plastic bags when shopping could make an enormous difference to the safety of our wildlife and the beauty of our natural world. Plastic pollution can be solved but only if we act together.”
