After a recent renovation, Manarat Al Saadiyat is aiming to become the place to be for creative minds in the capital to express themselves
Since opening up in the heart of Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District, years before Louvre Abu Dhabi had begun to take shape, Manarat Al Saadiyat has been an important venue for sharing art and creative works with the people of Abu Dhabi.
After undergoing refurbishment over the past few months, the cultural centre has reopened to the public, with new facilities and spaces for established artists and new talent to come together and create.
Helping to boost creativity, the venue has added a state-of-the-art photography studio and art studio, where visitors can develop new skills behind the lens and explore their artistic abilities.
The art studio, which features a range of hands-on education programmes, art classes, workshops and drop-in sessions, is open to children of all ages and also features a collaborative space for adults, complete with interactive features.
In the photo studio, shutterbugs can benefit from specialised workshops and training sessions hosted by professional photographers. The studio will also hold regular exhibitions featuring the work of UAE-based snappers.
Outdoors, The Terrace will host a number of events including live performances, while indoors, the 250-seat auditorium will continue to host regular film screenings.
Three additional gallery spaces have also been added, allowing the venue to hold a variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Bringing these new facilities to life, a vibrant programme of events has already been announced, with a variety of workshops and classes being hosted at the venue in the coming months, including stand-up comedy performances, acting classes, astronomy, yoga and much more.
Creating a community
“Manarat Al Saadiyat opens itself to everyone,” said Alia Al Qassimi, head of Manarat Al Saadiyat.
“We are the place and space in Abu Dhabi for art, cultural activities and community events; where everyone can come together to share, consider and create all types of creative, cultural and artistic expression.”
Building an enthusiastic community and helping to develop raw talent, Manarat Al Saadiyat is not just a space for established artists and creative-types, it’s a destination that’s open to everyone who has a passion to create.
“It is a space for people of all ages to enjoy the arts and creativity that reverberate across the venue,” Alia added.
“We invite those who do not consider themselves creative, or those who do not professionally work in a creative industry, to join us and explore everything we have to offer in all studios.”
Fostering a collective of creative minds, the venue aims to play a key role in promoting the arts and encouraging a new generation to express themselves, regardless of their abilities.
“Our aim is to provide the perfect place for anyone and everyone to come, nurture and explore their creative skills,” Alia explained.
“This new cultural space will offer the public a platform to indulge their artistic appetites, whilst also helping the young creative community to expand and grow further.”
