The UAE’s cinema-going culture will be in focus with the launch of a new photographic exhibition.
Running at NYUAD’s Project Space from 21st October to 5th November, Cinemas in the UAE by Ammar Al Attar will explore the little-seen stories behind the first big screens across the country, which arrived here in the 1970s.
From ledgers documenting film distribution to flyers, posters and photographs of the nation’s oldest cinemas before and during demolition, the exhibition seeks to give a deeper insight into the development of cinema culture in the UAE, and how going to the pictures was an integral part of community life and weekly family ritual.
Cinemas in the UAE opens on 21st October with an artist talk in The Project Space from 6pm to 9pm. To find out more, click here.
