This restaurant is blending Emirati and Arabic cuisine with tasty results

Despite scarce resources brought predominantly by dry weather typical of the region, Middle Eastern cuisine has evolved to become one of the most versatile in the culinary world – thanks to various influences and the ingenuity of past settlers.

This is the idea behind Dish Dash, the Emirati-Arab restaurant located at Cascade Dining in Yas Mall.

Spacious and minimalist in design, the restaurant features modest wooden chairs and tables, with an outside seating area perfect for those looking to enjoy the cooler months and the outdoor fountains.

The menu is nothing out of the ordinary so if you’re familiar with Arabic cuisine you’ll recognise most of the dishes. There’s a selection of salads and hot and cold mezze, as well as manakeesh, mixed grills, baked dishes and even sandwiches, pizza and pasta dishes thrown in for good measure.

The traditional fattoush salad is a concoction of colourful vegetables including lettuce, tomato, mint and watercress. This healthy and crunchy dish benefits from the pomegranate and lemon vinaigrette dressing, giving it an appetising mix of flavour that shifts from sweet to sour.

The chicken liver is a knockout. Flavoured with garlic and lemon juice, it’s a dish we joke is like the Arabic version of the Filipino staple dish adobo, and that’s a flattering comparison.

Pairing it with fresh Arabic bread, it’s not long before we’ve wiped the plate
clean, relishing the delectable blend of bitter and savoury taste.

The restaurant’s signature mixed grill is a filling platter made up of various grilled meats: shish taouk, lamb kofta and lamb cubes, arayes and lamb chops.

The mouthwatering meats are all well grilled but tender, making it easy to slice into smaller pieces for easy picking – highly recommended

To balance out the punch of the meat, I recommend finishing off with the freshly baked kunafa, a sweet dessert staple that is best paired with tea or coffee.

The servings are generous and suitable for sharing so it’s good value for money, with the laidback ambiance adding more to the pleasant experience.

With an extensive menu that highlights the rich elements present in Arabic cuisine, Dish Dash is doing its part in propagating the wonders of Middle Eastern fare.
