Masdar City, the capital’s eco-community, will soon have its own mall with ground having been officially broken on the project.
Due to open in 2019, the AED 340 million My City Centre Masdar will lead the way in environmentally-friendly retail spaces in the capital.
The mall will employ an innovative waste management strategy and all lighting will be energy-efficient LED.
Low-flow bathroom taps and recycling facilities will conserve water usage, while 20 percent of the building’s electricity requirements will come from installed rooftop solar panels.
Charging points for 18 electric vehicles and priority parking for vehicle sharing schemes will exist as well as bicycle parking facilities.
The mall will seek Estidama Three Pearl rating, which is equivalent to the LEED Gold rating for exceptional performance in energy and water conservation.
With Carrefour Hypermarket as its anchor tenant, the 18,800 square metre facility has leasing for 77 retail, dining and entertainment units.
Developed by Majid Al Futtaim, the mall’s project team worked closely with Masdar to ensure the development was fully compliant with Masdar City’s strict sustainability criteria.
