Ramadan 2018 will begin on Thursday 17th May

The start date for Ramadan 2018 has been announced by UAE officials. The moon sighting committee, based in Abu Dhabi, determined that the Ramadan will begin on Thursday 17th May.

shutterstock_587749811The committee responsible for calling the start of the holy month use a mixture of traditional and scientific methods for establishing that the moon is in the correct crescent phase. In the UAE, telescopes are used in the initial observations, before closer scrutiny is applied with the human eye.

The Emirates News Agency confirmed late last night, that “Wednesday 16th of May 2018 completes the month of Sha’ban 1439 AH, and Thursday is the first day of the holy month.”
