The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced on social media that Eid Al Fitr holidays in the UAE will begin from Thursday (14th June), the 29th day of Ramadan.

Of course, we don’t know exactly when Eid will fall until the sighting of the new moon. If it begins on Friday, then the holiday for public sector employees will last until the 3rd of Shawwal, which could be either Sunday, 17th June or Monday, 18th June.

Private sector holidays are yet to be confirmed, so keep checking back with us. We’ll also have a round-up of the best things to do this weekend, whether it’s a long one or not.

Eid Al Fitr is traditionally a three-day festival to mark the breaking of fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan – it actually means ‘the festival of breaking the fast’.
