A respected road safety campaigner has called on UAE motorists to be vigilant when purchasing secondhand cars.
“Having a car physically checked is very important to identify potential problems and eliminate them to ensure a car is safe,” stated Thomas Edelmann, founder of RoadSafetyUAE. “Sellers must be transparent about the condition of a car, and buyers need to be more aware of what to look out for.”
His comments come as RoadSafetyUAE and dubizzle released the results of an online poll that showed a quarter of people were willing to buy a car even without a detailed history.
The survey, which reached thousands on the portal, revealed that while 78.1 percent of buyers were open to the idea of owning pre-owned cars, 23.7 percent said they’re clueless about what to look out for to ensure a car is safe.
Over 81 percent said they encountered problems due to sellers not telling them about existing issues beforehand while, alarmingly, 24.9 percent stated willingness to purchase a car even without seeing detailed records.
