Celebrate the long break in grand style with these action-packed activities to mark the UAE’s 48th National Day.

Thursday, 28th November

Giving thanks

Gather with friends and family for a lavish festive themed-dinner buffet. Enjoy live cooking stations, turkey carvings, pumpkin pie, rotisseries, desserts and more. The meal is complete with entertainment by a live DJ and pianist – there’s so much to be grateful for.

New York’s pride Black Tap hops on to celebrate Formula 1 at Yas Marina. Setting shop at Boroughs restaurant, the visiting burger joint will flip burgers, spin shakes and pour hops while playing old-school hip-hop and pop tunes. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come basis.

Fam trip 

Celebrate UAE National Day by taking in some art and culture with the whole family. As part of family weekend, you can do a bit of crafting in a drop-in weaving workshop and discover more artworks from the UAE in a mini-guided tour. Plus, roaming storytellers will be moving throughout the museum’s galleries and exhibitions keeping you entertained.

Vintage rides

Vintage motors are on display at Qasr Al Hosn until 30th December. Al Ruhool, a classic cars exhibition, at Qasr Al Hosn explores how the urban fabric of the city developed in the mid-20th century with the transition from nomadic styles of transportation to modern-day automobiles. The exhibition will feature 21 cars from the 1950s and 1960s.

Sunday, 1st December

Caught on cam

Nation Towers Mall will roll out a light laser painting pop-up until 3rd December when you can go have your photo taken using the colours of the UAE flag for special effects. Shoppers will also get the chance to win a Nissan Patrol car in a raffle.

National colours

Emirates Palace will be adorned with the colours of the UAE’s flag from the hotel’s grand dome to entryway fountains down to the manicured grass lawns. There’ll also be a display of 10 dates variety, traditional dance performance. Little ones can head to the children’s corner for some edutainment. The highlight will be the spectacular firework display on 1st and 2nd December at 8.30pm.

Island fun

The waterfront promenade on Al Maryah Island will become an Emirati village from the past, immersing visitors in genuine Emirati cuisine courtesy of food trucks and stalls. Activities include henna design and face painting. Arabic calligraphy artists will teach visitors create greeting cards. Guests can also create cookies decorated with UAE flag. Of course, the celebration will not be complete without the island’s trademark fireworks display at 9pm. Until 2nd December.

Monday, 2nd December

Showstopper

The Legacy of our Ancestors will showcase live special effects and colourful visuals to narrate the UAE’s past. A variety of performances are also in store to celebrate National Day.

On the ground

Qasr Al Watan will celebrate National Day with a host of activities including a horse parade, a performance by the Abu Dhabi Police Band and traditional Emirati dance. The colours of the Emirati flag will be projected on the palace’s exteriors during the evening.
