A first of its kind study on road safety has highlighted the dangers faced by motorcycle delivery drivers in the UAE.
The study, published by RoadSafetyUAE, involved 222 riders who completed a survey answering questions on safety, driver attitudes and equipment.
A total of 68 percent of riders surveyed said that car drivers are inconsiderate on the roads and only 51 percent said they felt that customers were concerned with their safety while delivering their goods.
In addition, only 69 percent of riders are happy with the quality of their protective gear and 19 percent had been in an accident on the road in the last 12 months – that’s one in every five riders.
Thomas Edelmann, managing director of RoadSafetyUAE, said: “Motorcycle riders are amongst the most vulnerable road users and hence it is important to understand their perceptions and fears in order to work on improvement potentials.
“Some of the results provide a clear call to action. Safety must be the number one concern, also for customers awaiting their food or other deliverables.”
