Masdar City inaugurated Central Park, a new outdoor attraction, at The Festival, which took place during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
Central Park has been designed to the highest sustainability standards to reduce energy and water consumption, construction and operational waste and carbon emissions.
The park also embodies the four principles of the Estidama system – economic, environment, social and cultural – with hopes of achieving Abu Dhabi’s first Exemplar rating.
Conservation measures include the collection of organic, green-cut and biodegradable waste material for onsite landscaping and the inclusion of native and adaptive drought- and salt-tolerant plants.
All its playgrounds and 80% of its primary pathways have shading to improve thermal comfort. In addition, energy for lighting comes from renewable sources such as photovoltaic panels.
A stage for storytelling, urban farming areas with an edible maze, climbers and green walls that grow herbs and vegetables support educational initiatives in the park. Its landmark feature is the fog harvesting tower, which collects humidity to supplement the irrigation system throughout the area.
Central Park also offers public amenities including food and beverage outlets, community gardens and flexible market spaces to better serve the community.
