An upcoming international motorsports event is getting a local twist with the hosting of the Emirates Drift Championship Invitational Cup.
Taking place during the FIA World Rallycross Championship on 5th and 6th April, the one-off event will feature drivers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and more, all vying for the title at Yas Marina Circuit.
Petrol heads are in for a treat as powerful cars running between 500bhp and 1,000bhp, many modified with roll cages and turbo-charged engines, will entertain the crowds in a knock-out format competition.
Speaking about the Invitational, Cian Leonard, manager of Monster Energy Emirates Drift Championship, said: “As a sport, drifting is definitely one for the younger generation and, just like World Rallycross, provides many adrenaline-pumping elements such as plenty of speed, tyre smoke, noise and proximity, which means we’re certain that this will be the perfect accompaniment to everything else a spectator will be able to check out at Yas Marina Circuit this April. Our drivers are also extremely excited and cannot wait to be involved with this incredible, first-of-its-kind event.
“With so many exciting motorsport disciplines under one roof at one event, the first weekend in April really is shaping up to be a massive milestone for the sport of drifting and we cannot wait to see you all there and put on a world-class show.”
Heading to the event? If you book the X-Parks pass when purchasing a ticket, you’ll also gain unlimited access to Yas Island’s theme parks: Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi from Thursday to Sunday.
Weekend tickets are priced from AED 395 for North Grandstand general admission, AED 595 for the North Club Lounge and AED 1,495 for Yas Central Hospitality.
