Parties, shopping offers and live music will take over the city in the lead up to Abu Dhabi Showdown Week.
Seven days of celebrations are planned from 1st-7th September, building up to UFC 242 at the end of the week. The night of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts sees UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and American fighter Dustin Poirier go head-to-head in the main event.
Also on the cards is a gig by American rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers on 4th September at the purpose-built indoor venue The Arena, on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island. A second act there is still to be announced for the following night.
An official Chili’s after-party will be held at BIZAAR by Mad, while Drai’s Las Vegas shindig at the same club follows the yet-to-be-revealed concert.
Also taking place that week are pool parties at Saadiyat Beach Club on 2nd and 3rd September and a week-long poolside brunch at The Edition hotel in Al Bateen Marina.
Peckish fight fans can choose from more than 25 restaurants, bars and cafes participating in a city-wide ‘Knockout Burgers’ campaign, starting 25th August.
There’ll be promotions and prizes at the city’s malls, as well as photo opportunities and meet-and-greets with UFC athletes.
More than 4,000 people are expected to visit Abu Dhabi for UFC 242, predicts Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, acting executive director of Tourism and Marketing at DCT Abu Dhabi.
The fight night is almost sold out, but tickets for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Yas Island concert are available.
