Islamic or Hirji New Year will be marked in the UAE with a holiday for everyone.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared Muharram 1st, 1441, an official holiday with full pay for all private-sector employees in the UAE.
It was announced on Monday (19th August) by the Federal Authority For Government Human Resources that the date will also be a holiday for government workers.
This follows a decision by the UAE’s cabinet earlier this year that private and public sector holidays would be aligned.
The Hijri or Islamic New Year is predicted to fall about 31st August. That’s dependent on a moon sighting and hasn’t yet been confirmed by the UAE government, so Sunday 1st September could be the designated day off.
