Focus turns to Abu Dhabi as Special Games countdown begins

In 24 months, close to 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will take over Abu Dhabi for the Special Olympics World Games 2019. The city has begun the official countdown for the event, which will see men and women with intellectual disabilities compete in various sports.

At the closing of this year’s games in Austria, a ceremony showcased Abu Dhabi’s role in promoting inclusion for everyone in society.

Meanwhile, the event’s logo, inspired by the Emirati tradition of palm frond weaving as a metaphor for the Games’ unifying power, was unveiled on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
