The small streets embedded deep in the city, the remote places lurking on the edge of the desert, the shops located on the top floor of the mall that you never knew existed: it’s almost impossible to know about every shop, café, tailor and service in the emirate.

But that’s where we come in. We’re not saying we know it all, but we are avid fans of hidden gems.

That’s why we’ve started our new Hidden Gem video series. In just one minute, we’ll take you inside the team’s favourite lesser-known spots. If you love to explore this city like we do, here are just three videos you will be able to watch online at adwonline.ae over the next three weeks, with more to follow. What are you waiting for? Check it out now.

Al Rahba Organic Farm
With online editor Colin Armstrong

Just outside the city sits this organic farm, where you can pick your own vegetables and herbs including cucumbers, kale, peppers and basil. If you’re not wanting to get your hands dirty, you can pick up some goods from the market where the food really sums up the ‘farm to plate’ ethos. Keep in mind that the farm is seasonal and won’t open again until after summer.

Sometimes the simplest concepts are the best ones. Inspired by the idea of having an intimate café where friends could gather, brother and sister team Sawsan and Ahmed set up this cosy spot. Seating only a handful of people at a time, it serves a variety of teas like saffron karak and Turkish coffee. But you can’t visit without having the signature brew, a secret recipe that will have you going back for more. Check back soon on adwonline.ae for the video.

Bookshops are an endangered species and secondhand bookstores, well, their plight is critical. That’s why this store is an absolute treat. Like a good paperback, the shop’s tiny size belies the wealth of knowledge to be found within. Victoria, the welcoming store attendant, needs no computer to pinpoint a specific book among thousands and happily slides the first row of shelves aside to reveal row upon row of tomes. You just have to decide which ones are coming home with you. Check back soon on adwonline.ae for the video.
