Local and world music talents are set to take the stage in the capital with the launch of a new programme of music events.
Hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), the Music Programme will feature eight months of melodic performances. The series will encompass the returning Abu Dhabi Classics season and cultural events from Umsiyat, as well as year-round concerts from Bait Al Oud and the Emirati Music Series.
Kicking off on 12th October with a performance by the Swiss Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and pianist Nicholas Angelich at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain, the season will feature shows from local and world-renowned contemporary and classical musicians.
In December, Emirati singer Ahmed Al Hosani will perform a special show on Delma Island as part of the Emirati Music Series, while oud player Faisal Al Saari will join poets to perform the works of Sheikh Zayed to mark 2018 as the Year of Zayed.
Meanwhile, a series of outdoor cultural performances will return in January with Umsiyat.
Alongside the concerts and shows, the new Music Programme will also feature a public programme of talks, masterclasses and lectures.
Commenting on the upcoming season, HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, director general of TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “Music has played an essential role in Emirati life for centuries, binding people together and leaving a legacy that we have a duty to preserve long into the future.
“We aim to inspire the younger generation and show that music is a universal language,” he added.
“Our Music Programme will invite leading Emirati artists and world-class orchestras to Abu Dhabi and will underline the emirate’s status as an international destination for culture and arts.”
