Thursday 28th September
It’s back for the fifth time on Yas Island. Starting on Thursday evening, guests can look forward to traditional Bavarian food and beverages, with authentic activities and games until the early hours of the morning as Oktoberfest comes to town. Hosted across two days, the festival features a kid-friendly traditional Oktoberfest brunch on Friday, as well as yodelling competitions and a live band straight from Munich. If your little one can’t sit still or keep quiet during a performance, don’t worry because this is the perfect environment for them. Bringing an interactive show to the stage to capture the imagination of children and adults alike, NYUAD is playing host to Italian interactive performance media group Compagnia TPO for their new butterfly themed show, Farfalle. Aimed at kids aged four to eight, the show will plunge the audience into a colourful world of music and digital images where kids are able to play and have fun, while also experiencing performance arts in a way they’ve probably never seen before. Want to let your hair down? Providing the soundtrack to your weekend at Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE this weekend, DJs Francesca Lombardo and Rampue will be dropping EDM bangers at the UAE’s Balearic beach club. Go back to school
It’s that time of year when teachers head back to the sandpit – and reality – after a long summer break. Making sure to keep a fun school vibe going, Aloft Al Ain is hosting a special back to school themed pool party packed full of food and drink. Guests can get their fill with an unlimited barbecue brunch but the party doesn’t stop after the food, with a live DJ spinning tracks until 3am. And after the party? Rhyme on the roof
Do you love nothing more than seeing a live performance? This weekend, Rooftop Rhythms open mic night returns to the capital to kickstart another packed season of poetry and music. Supported by the US Embassy, Rooftop Rhythms is the longest-running poetry open mic night in the Middle East and sees a variety of UAE-based spoken word artists take to the stage for a night of passionate poetry. Alongside the poets, beats will be provided by DJ A.L.L.A.D, while a selection of food and beverages will also be available. Get on your bike
Want to get in shape? Taking place for the first time, the monthly Cycle for Health Series will be taking to the tracks. Presented by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Health Authority Abu Dhabi, the Cycle for Health sessions are all about loving your heart and promoting a healthy lifestyle by taking up cycling. Alongside the sport, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will also be hosting free health screenings, exercise information and healthy cooking demonstrations to encourage everyone to get fit and healthy and improve their quality of life. Want to try your hand at some creative crafts? Dalma Mall will be hosting a variety of cultural events this weekend including reading sessions, craft-making, puppetry and a variety of competitions. Head on down to the mall to flex your artistic chops and get involved with like-minded culture vultures. Entry is free, but if you fancy coming along, reservations are a must. You’ll float too
Want to try a workout with a difference? FloatUAE, a water-based fitness programme, is coming to the capital to get you doing squats, jumps and burpees on the water. Training men, women and children over ten to improve their core, strength, coordination and balance in a fun and dynamic way, FloatUAE isn’t your usual fitness class.
