Keen road cyclists of the UAE have a shot at sporting glory as a new competitive race series is set to get the New Year off to a speedy start.
Launched by the UAE Cycling Federation, the two-stage UAE Road Cycling Championships 2018 competition will take place on 26th January in Abu Dhabi before heading on to Dubai in March, and is open to all amateur cyclists.
With categories for Emirati and expat men and women, the event will also play host to a youth division, where young cyclists aged 16 to 18 can take on the course.
Stage winners will be crowned after each race, with an overall champion to be announced at the event’s close.
Commenting on the launch of the championship, Osama Al Shafar, president of the UAE Cycling Federation, said: “We are delighted to bring the Inaugural UAE Road Cycling Championships to the UAE. Cycling is already a very popular sport for our expatriate community and it has grown in incredible numbers over the past few years among Emiratis.”
