Hoping to raise AED 70,000 and $500,000 to invest in the medical treatment and research of childhood cancer in the UAE, a local hotel is bringing back its popular indoor charity fun run.

Aloft Runs for Children will be hosted on 22nd September in Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center and welcomes runners of all ages and abilities to help get fit for a good cause.

Last year’s event raised $929,000, a donation that supports Aloft’s parent hotel group Starwood’s Road to Awareness campaign.

This year’s funds will go to Al Jalila Foundation’s Omniyat Dania project, set up in memory of a young girl who lost her battle with a rare cancer just a week short of her 13th birthday.

Speaking about the initiative, Michel Nader, area manager, Starwood Hotels Abu Dhabi, and general manager, Aloft Hotel Abu Dhabi, said: “Besides being the first competition run of the season for the Abu Dhabi and Dubai running community, the event is also a fun family and team event promoting a healthy lifestyle for a good cause.

“We look forward to your participation in this unique event, which is a day for families, colleagues and friends to enjoy a sportive day out.”

The eighth edition of the event features prizes in each category, including hotel stays and health club memberships. Categories include individual runs for children and adults, as well as team relays, with distances ranging from 2km to 20km.

Participation fees start from AED 50 for children, AED 160 for adults and AED 450 for teams.
