It’s the weekend – and it’s going to be a good one


Okay, so there’s an elephant in the room: the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes centre stage this weekend with loads of activities on and off the track. But there’s more than just the race going on in the city over the next few days, too. See for yourself.

Thursday 23rd November

Kicking off the weekend on Thursday night is Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, followed by J. Cole on Friday, UK folk group Mumford and Sons on Saturday and the pop-starlet P!nk bringing events to a close on Sunday night. F1 ticketholders will gain free entry to the shows, so if you’re lucky enough to be a ticketholder, it’s going to be a busy weekend for you. du Arena, next to Ferarri World Abu Dhabi. From 6pm. Be a hero

SAM_7428Giving a twist to your favourite pop-culture icons, superheroes and familiar faces, Comic Craze has come up the road to Abu Dhabi after a successful stint in Al Ain. With work from a range of local artists, the exhibition features comic art with an Arabic twist, social commentary and interesting takes on the likes of Batman, Star Wars and much more. Awesome. This huge event running until 25th November features tabletop gaming, live gaming competitions, cosplay competitions and even the chance to meet and greet your favourite stars from the gaming world on YouTube. Play the part

TheFever_Baranova-2014-1Even if you’re a regular theatergoer, we bet you’ve never done anything quite like this. 600 Highwaymen (the moniker for artists Abigail Browde & Michael Silverstone) is an immersive theatre group unlike anything else. Bringing its show The Fever to the capital, the group invites the the audience to play an active role in the performance, which explores themes like collective responsibility. Piqued your interest? You know where to be this weekend. Can’t make the performance this Friday? Well, you’re in luck as additional performances will also take place on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday. AED 100. Prepare to dance

martin-garrixMissed out on F1 tickets but still fancy some live music this weekend? Bringing all things EDM (that’s electronic dance music) to the fore this weekend is the new concert series, Beyond the Track. First up on Friday night is superstar DJ Martin Garixx, followed by Carl Cox on Saturday and the one and only Tiesto closing the series on Sunday night. See something on the silver screen

Gather your family and head to Manarat Al Saadiyat where you can enjoy a cinematic tale of adventure, survival and friendship. Screening this weekend is The Journey Home, a heart-warming film that’s perfect for the whole family. The 2014 movie tells the story of a young boy named Luke who discovers a lost polar bear cub and sets off to reunite the wild animal with its mother in northern Canada.
