Registration is now open for the 22nd edition of the yearly Ramadan sporting event at the Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel (AFOC).
Formerly called the Annual Ramadan Sports Tournament, the event has been renamed the Zayed Sports Tournament, in tribute to the UAE’s founding father. “We are dedicating our tournament to Sheikh Zayed, honouring his contribution to the foundations of this nation and the legacy he has left for the generations to come,” said Lt Gen Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, chairman of the organising committee and AFOC.
The competition will open in the first week of Ramadan, predicted to start on 15th May. A total of 20 local and international teams are expected to participate, competing for 18 days in various sports including basketball, football, swimming and judo. Cultural activities will also take place, and will be open to the public.
“As one of the first and leading Ramadan sports tournaments in the country, we have hosted 36,120 athletes to date, welcomed 37,750 visitors, bringing together communities and uniting teams in the celebration of sportsmanship,” Mohammed added.
