Skills are trumping personal attributes in the professional arena on a national level, according to new research from a business social media site.
Compiled by LinkedIn, the top ten most popular buzzwords used on the site in the UAE in 2017 highlighted a shift in the way professionals across the country are describing their career history.
With descriptors such as ‘experienced’, ‘skilled’ and ‘expert’ topping the leaderboard, the new list ousted words including ‘successful’, which had been a mainstay since 2015.
Commenting on the shift in language, Nada Enan, senior manager of marketing and public relations at LinkedIn MENA, highlighted an evolving skills-based job market as the reason for the change: “For many, a job is no longer for life; we continually look to move on, evolve ourselves and strive for new and better opportunities.
“This results in a language of optimisation; people ‘skill up’ and badge this on their profiles. With recruiters using keywords to identify the perfect candidates, we’re encouraging members to ensure they’re using the right words to land their dream job.”
