What does it feel like to fly upside down?

Our editor Rachael Perrett recently found out.

As the Red Bull Air Race World Championship races into town once again to kick off the 2018 season, we took a seat in the cockpit for a flight over Abu Dhabi to experience the G-force.

Zipping through an inflatable pylon gate and experiencing acrobatic tricks like a roll and a vertical turning manoeuvre, we found out first-hand what the participating world-class race pilots go through to win a race – and what an experience it was.

Flying in such a high-adrenaline race takes an immense amount of precision and skill. We’ll be watching – safely from the ground – this weekend with a new-found respect for the Red Bull Air Race pilots and their crews.

Red Bull Air Race takes place in Abu Dhabi on 2nd and 3rd February at the Corniche. Entry is free but hospitality packages are available at Hiltonia from AED 419 and The St Regis Abu Dhabi from AED 250.
