Corniche

The beautiful Corniche is dotted with several options, all located a stone’s throw from one another along the waterfront. The Lake Park, located near the Mall at the World Trade Center, features water-based attractions including, you guessed it, a lake, bridges and a stunning fountain at the centre. The Formal Park, located near Le Royal Méridien, is home to a host of exercise stations and a maze where children can have some fun navigating their way through hedges. Finally, the Family Park features a BMX track where you can cycle if you brought your wheels or you can hire a bike for the day by crossing the street to visit the Cycale station on the Corniche. If you have the time you could even visit all three in one day. Free, bike hire AED 20 for one day. Visit: bikeshare.ae

Yas Gateway Park

If you’re tired of malls and theme parks then take it down a notch and enjoy a more relaxing experience on Yas Island. Split into North and South sections, this large public space is still something of a hidden gem despite hosting sporting events like the Electric Run and Yas Family Fitness Festival. With playgrounds, barbecue stations, open spaces for football, Frisbee and soaking up the sun, there are plenty of options for families looking to escape the city for a while and unwind. Free. Yas Island.

Did you know?

There are various small playgrounds dotted around the city hidden between residential buildings. The fenced-in areas are designed specifically for children and are a great stop-off if you want to enjoy some down time while the little ones play in the shade. Some of them include the playground next to the American Veterinary Clinic off Al Falah Street and near the General Women’s Union at the end of Al Karamah Street.
