Earth bound

The UAE’s first astronaut to reach orbit is coming home. Welcome Hazza Al Mansouri as he reenters Earth after a historic eight-day space voyage. Al Jimi Mall, Yas Mall and WTC Mall through its cinemas will run a live screening of the astronaut’s return, landing in Kazakhstan at approximately 4pm UAE time.

Strike a pose

Yoga is largely about achieving balance but Jivamukti Yoga focuses exclusively on one pose – the warrior.  Join Dina for an uplifting 90-minute yoga class where you’ll execute a series of standing and warrior poses and little soul searching to understand the role of the warrior in real life. Saturday, 5th October

Get physical

Run, swim and bike to put your body to the test at the Triathlon Festival on Al Hudayriat Island. The event features a protected swim course, looped bike course with no traffic and a run course with a twist. Pick your pain from Olympic, sprint and super sprint distance categories. The kids can get in on this too as there’s a junior triathlon and a junior aquathon taking place alongside the main event.

Roll with it

Learn how to create perfect sushi and dumplings with help from an expert chef. Open to adults and kids, this fun class will impart skills and techniques needed to whip out yummy Japanese delicacies like a pro.

The Photography Studio at Manarat Al Saadiyat is set to host a touring exhibition by award-winning Emirati photographer Yousef Al Habshi until 28th October. The Unseen exhibit is a collection of images, which celebrates the art of macro photography and the tools used to reveal elements of the world that are not visible to the human eye. Additionally, Al Habshi will lead a series of macro photography workshops including masterclasses for beginners and children.

It’s that time of the year again when you can dust down your lederhosen and head to Oktoberfest. This one’s at Hamilton’s Gastropub where the usual festival-type drinks, ribs and sausages are dished up to a backdrop of fun activties and thigh-slapping beats all the way to 15th October.
