The fact that Abu Dhabi has a lot to offer aesthetically hasn’t gone unnoticed within the film industry means the capital will be on the screen a lot more.
Our capital has the kind of good looks that’s been attracting the right kind of attention…from filmmakers to be exact.
Filmmakers have been scouting the city for the perfect locations for movie scenes.
One movie is 6 Underground, an action film co-produced by Netflix starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Detective Pikachu).
The film crew, along with director Michael Bay (Pearl Harbor, Transformers), visited the UAE in November 2018 to shoot scenes for the film.
The team also went to the Liwa desert, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.
Helping the production team with logistics, permits and security was the Abu Dhabi-based media centre twofour54.
And after months of waiting, the film’s first trailer was released yesterday (1st October).
Keep an eye out for familiar Abu Dhabi spots…
“We are delighted to see Abu Dhabi yet again featuring so prominently in a major international production,” said Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Vice-Chair of twofour54.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Netflix back to our emirate and to support such a smooth and seamless shoot.”
International studios will be happy to know that they are entitled 30 percent cash rebate on production and post-production spend from Abu Dhabi Film Commission.
6 Underground is scheduled for release on 13th December 2019 at Netflix.
