Abu Dhabi Children’s Library to open in September

First look at a new children’s library and theatre that’s coming to Abu Dhabi.

The date has been set for the opening of the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library and theatre at Al Hosn’s Cultural Foundation.

The new addition to the refurbished Qasr Al Hosn complex will open on 4th September 2019, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has announced.

Spread over three floors, the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library covers 5,250 square metres and features facilities divided into several age-appropriate, social spaces.

The venue’s design is inspired by pop-up books and has several three-dimensional learning and play spaces for kids to immerse themselves as if they’re part of actual stories.

Each colourfully-designed floor has a different concept illustrating the rich and diverse UAE landscapes.

The library will house a large collection of books and interactive learning materials celebrating Emirati and world literature.

It will also host STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art and maths) programmes, exhibitions and workshops ranging from writing, storytelling, filmmaking, among many others.

Meanwhile, the Cultural Foundation’s renovated 900-seat theatre will showcase world-class contemporary, popular and home-grown performing arts, including music, dance, and theatre.

Upcoming events include headline performances and premieres such as Naseer Shamma and the 2350 BC Orchestra, ‘One Hundred and One Nights’ by the Caracalla Dance Theatre, the ‘Artist of Arabs’ Mohammed Abdo, and a special performance by the Emirati pop star Mehad Hamad.

“Al Hosn is a key part of our mission to support the younger generations and engage them with the UAE’s rich national heritage and with all aspects of global culture, enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a cultural capital for the Middle East,” said Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi.
