Cabs in the capital are getting greener

Eco-friendly cabs are helping to save the planet, with even more expected to be rolled out soon.

Taxis in Abu Dhabi are playing their part in making the capital green.

Data from the Integrated Transport Centre shows that 85 percent of Abu Dhabi’s taxi fleet is now made up of hybrid vehicles.

In 2019 alone, 1,308 new hybrid taxis were launched to further boost the number of taxis in city to 6,400.

The petrol and electric-powered vehicles reduce harmful emissions, making them more efficient and eco-friendly.

More hybrid taxis are on the way, helping to support the government’s green initiatives here in the emirate as well as across the UAE.

The Integrated Transport Centre has revealed that more than 68 million passengers have used Abu Dhabi taxis so far in 2019, which is equivalent to 38 million journeys.

Figures also reveal that there has been a noticeable increase in taxi bookings through smartphone apps, with more than 551,000 requests, compared to 204,683 bookings made via the contact centre.
