9 things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend

As Ramadan draws to a close, many people are set to have a whopping 9 days off, while others (like us!) will be enjoying a normal weekend ahead of the Eid al Fitr holiday.

No matter what holidays you have coming up, there’s definitely an air of celebration about town, and there are plenty of events going on this weekend for everyone to enjoy. From Ramadan celebrations and sports festivals to conservation events, here are 9 ways to fill your weekend. 

Thursday 30th May

To kickstart your weekend, the Armed Forces Officers Club and First Abu Dhabi Bank are hosting the finals of the Zayed Sports Tournament Karting Championship. The competition will take place at Yas Marina Circuit where teams of racers will battle it out on the iconic track in the hopes of winning the first prize of AED 25,000. Entry is free. Take your iftar to new heights with St Regis Abu Dhabi’s Iftar in the Sky situated in the world’s highest suspended suite, 220 metres above ground. Friday 31st May

The Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island will be holding family-friendly activities to celebrate Ramadan and Eid al Fitr. Free activities include henna art, children’s face painting, intricate sand art, lantern making and more, for children of all ages and their families. Saturday 1st June

Be part of global efforts to raise awareness about the environment and the important of protecting the ocean at the Paddle for the Planet event. Paddlers in Abu Dhabi and around the world unite for a one-day global relay event and you could be part of it. Dragon boating team Desert Dragons is hosting the Abu Dhabi instalment of the event today and anybody who has a paddle craft – whether that’s a stand-up paddle board, dragon boat, surf ski or kayak – is welcome to take part. Free.
